Spanish Seprox Biotech Company has developed a production process based on chemical and enzymatic methods to produce HYDROXYTYROSOL, the most potent natural antioxidant. Previously obtained from the Olive, its levels of purity were below those obtained by SEPROX BIOTECH. Applications: cosmetic, pharmacy, nutrition and food.

HYDROXYTYROSOL as acetate in powder form or as such pure form as a dense liquid. In both cases purity is higher than 99,0%.

Introduce Hydroxytyrosol

n Hydroxytyrosol ( CAS #: 10597-60-1 ) is an ortho-diphenol also named 3,4-dihydroxyphenylethanol (DOPET) and with its systematic name 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,2-benzenediol. Its molecular formula is C8H10O3, and its molecular weight is 154.166 g/mol (fig. 1). It is present in a particularly high concentration in extra virgin olive oil either in a free or esterified form, where it accounts for 70 to 80% of total phenolic fraction.

n Natural presence of hydroxytyrosol
Hydroxytyrosol is present naturally in olives and extra-virgin olive oil. It is responsible together with other phenolic compounds for its peculiar bitter taste and for its high stability due to the antioxidant activity of hydroxytyrosol.

Several epidemiological studies in Mediterranean countries strongly support the relationship between the Mediterranean diet and low incidence of coronary heart disease as well as certain cancers particularly of the digestive and respiratory tract and breast cancer. Usual components of the Mediterranean diet are vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains and olive oil as a main source of fat. Natural antioxidants present in food are able to control and what is more important, to scavenge free radicals, thus preventing their harming effects.
Biological benefits of olive oil consumption are linked to the presence in high amounts of hydroxytyrosol and its precursor oleuropein in unrefined olive oil. The main activity of HT is based on its antioxidative therapeutic properties listed below, to which it has to be added the proposal of it as an adequate additive for stabilizing foodstuff rich in functional ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Last but not least, no toxicity due to hydroxytyrosol has been observed in the published scientific data available even at great concentrations in vitro and in vivo.

Application

1. Decrease of Cardiovascular and Heart Disease Risk

2. Cancer prevention

3. Neuroprotection

4. Antiinflammatory activity

5. Skin protection and antiaging

6. Hydroxytyrosol in the prevention of HIV infection

7. Hydroxytyrosol as an antiviral agent of broad spectrum
